I've managed to achieve most of today's aims so far, I've reported the faulty oven to Halls Reception, brought a replacement lightbulb and bumped into Potty and Sophie,
i.e. me not being lary.
As an aside I found another offering from James on Youtube and I've had this
as a Real Player file for a few years but it's good to see it in larger sharper picture quality.
Basically it goes back just over 18 years to Boxing Day 1990 and Michaela Strachan closing down TV-AM and YTV starting up. I'm not sure if the announcer's John Crosse or the late Graham Roberts but I'm pretty certain that any YTV viewer from back in the day will correct me if they stumble across this post.
With regards to Michaela, this is the perfect example of one of the best female television presenters in her prime, around the period in between The Wide Awake Club and The Really Wild Show.
Genuine enthusiasm, nothing too forced and the ability to smile naturally.
I used to give Chilvers a bit of stick for the way he used to say "Bye" as "Boiyye!" in his "Norfolk accent" which he denies, but it's nowhere near as bad as Ms Strachan's goodbye at 0.59.
One of those women on television who falls into the category of
"lovely looking and a fun personality, despite being a vegetarian".
As opposed to Fiona Phillips for example, who is also a vegetarian,
but just irritating overall.
And speaking of vegetarians, it's just as fitting that the video ends with the first few seconds of Count Duckula which if Never Mind The Buzzcocks did a TV theme special, they should have the theme to Duckula in the indecipherable lyrics round.
However I'll do my best to give a transcription:
"In the heart of Transylvania, In the Vampire Hall Of Fame yeah
There's not a vampire zanier than, Duckula!"
"He won't bite beast or man, 'cause he's a vegetarian.
And things never run to plan for, Duckula!"
"If you're looking for some fun, you can always count upon,
The wild and wacky one they call, Duckula, Count Duckula!" they call
Duckula!
Then again, I'm not sure if the Michaela who for 42 years old is still looking good, will be appearing on our screens for much longer now that she's been sacked from BBC 1's Countryfile ahead of it's relaunch and a move to a later timeslot in the evenings.
At least they've still got John Craven.
As Waterstones don't appear to have made any progress with regards to Johnny Beerling's book, I've ordered a copy from the man himself.
Hopefully it will arrive soon, although because of the muddles with mail at Harrow Halls, I've asked all the parcels to be looked after in Canterbury until I return in Feburary for my next appointment at Laurel House.
With regards to vegetarians on campus, the only ones I know are Emma Picton,
Adam Hodgkins, bar girl Sarah Williams, and second year radio student Sammy C.
I have no problem with that at all, but I've mentioned before that I don't like it
when people claim to be vegetarians but still eat fish.
That's just nonsense and in my opinion, rather pretentious.
That and something a bit more common round here, with a lot of people disliking fish when it comes to things such as salmon, mackarel, trout and so on, but they are more than happy to enjoy fish and chips.
That gets to me quite a bit, especially as I would rather enjoy the three examples of
the former, especially with taglietelle pasta and possibly pesto.
Actually I've tried pesto once and found it rather revolting.
I must be thinking of something else.
The loveliest meal I had with fish was quite a long time ago, I can't remember what it was but it was a tiny bit but not too salty and it was with lovely basmati rice.
I haven't brought basmati rice for a long time either, I may make sure that's the top of my list next time round.
That will go down with a delicious chilli with kidney beans that I also haven't had for a bloody long time either.
Yes, I'm starting to go "experimental" with my cooking if you can call it that.
