"Twitter Ye Not?"

I met up with the delightful Ellena from Prospects this morning, and went through a few work experience letters.

I was a bit discouraged when finding out that some places I wanted to apply for said that they didn't undertake internships as such, one of them being Jazz FM but to be fair they're going through quite a lot right now with regards to management changes and possible re-location.

In fact their output comes from all over the place really as Steve Quirk's show comes from up North and possibly Mike Chadwick does as well, whereas Robbie Vincent does his show via ISDN from KMFM's Tonbridge studios.

With regards to KMFM, it appears that things are declining even further
as following Richard Walters departure to XFM London and the loss of the Rock Show,
it appears that Chris Finn's Chill Out show has disapeared from the schedule as well,
resulting in the Saturday night dance show being extended.

Which means that practically all the best or should I say stand out shows on the network have gone so that gives me an even bigger reason for not wanting to go back to Canterbury.
They still have Tony Blackburn on Sunday, but he's also on Smooth Radio,
and BBC London over here so it's not too big a deal really.

Thankfully, our very own Steven McIntosh has come up with the remedy for the loss of Finny's Chill Out show in the form of a list on Facebook of albums of a similar nature to help ease dissertation stress.

They include the superb debut by Zero 7 from 2001 which I've used in many a radio feature, Royksopp's "Melody A.M" which brings back many memories of Summer 2002, "Mama's Gun" by Erykah Badu and the ever superb "Moon Safari" by Air.

Others that will probably get me through the next few months will include "Since I Left You" by The Avalanches which I was chatting to Phil H about just a couple of days ago, anything from Nightmares On Wax and Quantic, both of Jiva's albums of course, and 4hero's "Creating Patterns". In fact anything by them as well.

However I certainly won't be listening to anything by Jose Gonzales, or that dreadful cover of Massive Attack's "Teardrop" by Newton Faulkner which came out towards the end of 2007.

The original version of that song was used by a lot of people on my college course for their short films and I imagine quite a few people at Uni use it as well.

One of our alumni Mark Jackson also used it on his second year radio feature about "Love On The Underground" which is probably one of my favourite radio features done by a student on the course.

As an aside I've just started using Twitter which despite not having internet on my mobile I'm becoming rather addicted to.
Amongst those I've started following are Chilvers, Ross T, Stoobie, Spikey G and a few famous people such as "Wossy" and Phillip Schofield.

I've also added Media UK's radio job vacancies which will come in useful, and of course Jazz FM.

It looks like there will be two permanent tabs on my web browser with Facebook being the other.

As for the rest of today, I plan to reminisce back to late 2001 and Ant & Dec's last ever edition of Saturday Morning Television Live.

It should be a good laugh.
