"3 Single Chart Hits In Ten Seconds, For...."

I've just returned from the radio rooms where my rather shocking ability of knowing what years records came out resulted in Jake setting up a Facebook group to persuade me to enter Popmaster on BBC Radio 2.

I was rather nervous about the idea, but if it gets 100 members than I'll give it a go.

I can understand why others may find it confusing because as you get older, two years roll into one and you start to lose track of time. Especially when you enter a Groundhog Day scenario.

However I know for a fact that it's not just me who can do so.

I saw a documentary about 4 years ago about a man with Asperger's Syndrome who could memorise the first and last appearances of characters who have appeared in Eastenders.

Anyway, I noticed that Jake had a copy of "Essential Radio Skills" in his bag and even he thinks that it can tell a lot more than what you get taught on the practical radio course here at Westminster.

I've never even heard Matthew acknowledge it although that's probably because he's more interested in books containing ridciulous overblown theories and ideas which are heavilly biased towards the BBC.

That book should be made the compulsory reading material for anyone wanting to undertake the radio course, or anyone who is still doing so now.

The rest of Dan's pilot this afternoon went well with the highlight being a brilliant live performance by the Paul Garner Band.

They had a sound very similar to the James Taylor Quartet in their early days which of course was mainly due to the superb Hammond organ player who gave it the gritty sound associated with the genre, with the set including some original songs and a cover of Muddy Water's "Got My Mojo Workin'.

Spike was kind enough to lend me the album and hopefully I'll get round to having a listen pretty soon.

Not to be confused with the Paul Garner who used to appear on "The 11 O'Clock Show" and was one of the writers on Bo Selecta where he played a recurring character in the Mick Hucknall sketches by approaching someone a member of the public and asking them "Is this ginger BASTARD bothering you sir?".

One of the more funnier sketches from the series, although I've heard that the comedian does genuinely hate people with that hair colour.

I wonder how he felt to actually work with the main character?
