This afternoon's assessed edition of "Friday Night Flashback" went really well and Joe Lester really impressed me as the presenter of the show.
He was certainly more down to earth and relaxed than Dan was yesterday although that's not to say that Dan wasn't as competent in the same role.
The music consisted mainly of classic dance tunes from the 80s and 90s such as "Pump Up The Jam" by Technotronic, "Groove Is In The Heart" by Dee Lite and "Give It Up" by KC And The Sunshine Band, which will always remind me of Smoke Aid.
That's such a long time ago now and things have really changed since that event which more or less put Smoke Radio on the map of all things Westminster. Uni wise that is.
The highlight was probably at the end when the "Last Dance" track played by Joe was "Fame" by Irene Cara which was well timed considering I was watching a feature about it yesterday on the "I Love 1980" episode.
The song prompted Potty and Alice to start dancing to it in the studio next door and it was one of those moments I had wished I'd brought my camera with me as I would have uploaded it as a video onto Youtube and Facebook.
I suppose the only real flaw was the contrast between the studio and the live performance room as everything felt rather downtempo downstairs compared to the lively atmosphere with Joe in the studio.
The band weren't exactly enthusiastic when being interviewed although their rendition of Gary Numan's "Cars" was interesting, mainly because the vocalist sounded very similar to "Richard Cheese", a man who does loungey easy listening covers of rock and pop songs.
The funniest part was during the competition when they wanted to have a caller who got the answers wrong and another who got them right.
The one with the incorrect answers was Richard Simkins who does the Smoke Review with Dean and Troy, who deliberatley got the answers wrong by giving stupid guesses.
The caller with the correct answers was Lottie's mum who was pretty good although Potty herself was rather embarrassed.
Overall it was a really good show and dare I say, the better of the two that went out this week.
As RP2 was being used by the MAJI Students, the debriefing was held in the Undercroft where I headed over with them for a few drinks before Dave Sharp arrived.
I may head back over there after I've finished this post as it's Sarah's last shift and hopefully a few of the radio lot will still be around.
Actually on that note, I'm up to here with the amount of Journalism and International Masters students who hassle me, and every other radio student how to use certain functions of Cool Edit/Audition.
It makes you think as if the staff in the Media Department even give them any tutorials on how to use the fucking software.
Although it's been talked about before, I've asked this to be raised in the next course committee meeting this semester and I'm certain I'm not the only one who feels strongly about this.
Instead of wasting money on flat screen TVs that don't work properly, they could use the money for teaching time as it would save us an awful lot of hassle.
With the Music Radio module out of the way however, it's more or less guaranteed that my visits to M-Block will be fewer unless I'm doing a show.
