The "Rhythm" Of London

The Rhythm and Blues pilot with Dan is in full flow and we're having a listen through the TV in RP1. Dan almost cocked up by accidentally using the Smoke strapline resulting in him saying "Your station, Your London!, Smooth Radio...".

The music is pretty good with plenty of classic blues tracks and a few new ones such as a stunning tune by Imelda Mae in style very similar to Michelle Shocked who's "Short Sharp Shocked" album was one of my favourites from an early age.

I never really got into her "Texas Campfire Tapes" album, although the concept was rather unique consisting of original tape recordings of Michelle and her guitar playing her songs accompanied by the noises of insects.

It's all going well and sounding slick although I'm sure Matthew will be searching for improvements as always for the debriefing after the show.

I'm just glad we had Dave Sharp for our Advanced Module as I would have been roasted if Matthew had heard my desperate efforts.

Then again Matthew did have a few good words for when I presented on the music module and I think he knew that it's what I really wanted to do on the radio course.

On a slightly different note Aled Jones has been standing in for Ken Bruce this week and Popmaster is continuing as normal.

I've noticed that he tends to start the game in a similar manner to Bob Holness with the line "So if you're ready, Let's play Popmaster!".

The Media Events essays and proposals are due in today and it turns out that Fiz is planning to analyse Live 8. Although he is pondering on whether to look at both the London concert and the Philadelphia concert which will be an interesting take although I'm hoping the likes of Maria Way won't poo poo the idea like they've done to me several times.

There's no better time to feel good about not having to attend theory lectures.

Sorry, poncey theory lectures.
