One of my GCSE Media lessons at secondary school involved us watching Channel 4's rundown of the Top 10 Glam Rock acts.
As this was originally transmitted in March 1999 before all the fuss happened,
Gary Glitter was one of the artists included at Number 3.
However when they repeated the series a year later they cut out the whole package with just a brief caption with Fluff saying "at number 3 is Gary Glitter, and we all know what happened to him", before moving onto the next artist.
Yes, what he did was completely wrong, he deserves all the jokes made at him, but that's not to say that his music should be completely disregarded.
I bet if Michael Jackson was found guilty of having sex with children, people would still play his records regardless. I certainly would provided it wasn't anything after the Dangerous album.
But with Gary Glitter they've taken it too far although actually some of the song titles were suggestive; "Do You Wanna Touch Me" and so on.
Here is that section from the original show, and I'm pretty certain the Harrow campus library has a copy.
It would be good if they also had Cheggers' rundown of the Top 10 Really Annoying Records from the same series and was the most watched if I remember correctly.
Rather impressive that the man can enjoy such records without a sip of booze.
