The Smiles Skate Off

I've unloaded quite a heavy amount of stuff brought back from Canterbury, including putting stacks of VHS's against the walls.

I've divided some of them into a "Saturday Pile" containing ones specifically of various Saturday morning shows to help me when writing my take on that legendary television timeslot.

As well as those, I've brought back a few DVDs including the collection of Pink Panther animated shorts, and the Dick and Dom DVD containing the highlights of the third series of the anarchic show and possibly their best.

Moving onwards, tonight's Dancing On Ice wasn't brilliant but there were a few good tunes in some of the programmes on offer.

One of them being "Let's Hear It For The Boy" which was used by Melinda Messenger who had a rather nice top to match.

On a slightly lower note Zoe Salmon's programme made use of "Mamma Mia" by ABBA and I'll stay true to my words that there's barely a record by that band I will get enthusiastic about.

The opening VT made me laugh where it showed a montage of Ray Quinn's sweep from last week with what looked like a succession of five 6's which faded out before the third "6".

Probably another sign of my anti-religious sense of humour.

This week's required element was the Compulsory Chain of Elements, assisted or unassisted. The only skater to do their's unassisted was Jessica Taylor who skated to "Unbreak My Heart" by Toni Braxton.

As for the presenters, I wasn't too sure about Phillip wearing a brown suit this week. And we all remember the stick Angus Deayton got for wearing one on Have I Got News For You.

Holly on the other hand was wearing a really nice pink dress proving that she can still look pretty good despite the bump.

Phillip's analogies weren't too good this week with the best one being;

"She performed to 'Mamma Mia' but If you don't want Zoe to meet her Waterloo"

Although Ice Commentator Tony Gubba made a rather clever comment on Melinda Messenger's programme;

"She's been up before the judges more than Norman Stanley Fletcher in 'Porridge'".

Amongst those in the audience this week was one Tony Blackburn, whilst Roxanne Pallet's supporters had signs that read "Roxy Balboa".

Skating for survival this week were Melinda and Jessica, but not before a pointless, dreadful, waste of space insert with Jane and Chris doing a search for members of the public skating, in what was essentially "Britain's Got Talent" on ice.

The sort of thing that should be a spin off show on ITV2.

Melinda was eliminated although Schofe announced that next weeks show would involve the use of props.

Sadly because of Melinda's elimination, I doubt we'll be seeing any suggestive ones.
