The Blonde "Bomb"shell (In More Ways Than One)

I've got a rather snotty nose this morning and am not feeling too good. It doesn't really help that my cupboard is empty with regards to stuff that doesn't need to be heated up before eating but I'm sure I'll manage.

As usual Robbie's on Jazz FM with his Sunday Morning Soul whilst I've been reading Anthea Turner's autobiography.

The relationship with Bruno Brookes was nowhere near violent as everyone said it was, although it seemed like he was a rather ambitious control freak with little support for Anthea when he moved to London and Anthea gave in and moved from her home Norton in Staffordshire.

However after the split, both him and Peter Powell were supportive of Anthea after being blown up on live television and although Anthea was engaged to Powell, both her and Bruno were civil enough to present the Christmas Top Of The Pops together along with Gary Davies.

Peter of course had left Radio 1 by 1989 to focus more on his management company James Grant, named after him and his business partner's respective middle names.

Clients happen to include some of the finest people on television including Ant & Dec, Phillip Schofield, Ben Shepherd and Holly Willoughby.

And to a lesser extent, Reggie Yates, Vernon Kay, and Piers Morgan.

Back to Anthea and yes, the quote about the "magical days" about
enjoying fish and chips and hanging about in amusement arcades are absolutely true,
as read by Simon Amstell on Buzzcocks.

Only that they were done when Anthea was little.

One of the parts I liked was when Anthea recounted about attending a youth Christian social club after the death of her sister Ruth at 15 years old when she told all the members to "fuck off" when they prayed for her saying that "God had taken her away".

My family have never been religious, but when I went bonkers in August two years ago,
I felt that Christian overtones within television programmes were responsible.

One example being Blockbusters because of the polysterene statues at the top of the studio, and taking part in a Gold Run seemed like judgement day.

As well as the valid points made by Richard Herring in his hilarious "Christ On A Bike" stand up.

Quite a few names of "cult figures" are mentioned in the book including Phillip Schofield and his wife Stephanie, the late Caron Keating, her husband Russ who is one of the friends of Anthea's ex husband Peter Powell, Pat Sharp, Gary Davies, and David 'Kid' Jensen.

There's quite a shocking photo of Anthea not looking so good after that incident at the Royal Tournament on the BBC's UP2U that took place on Saturday the 15th of July 1989.

I'm now up to the part where it looked things were drying up for Anthea career wise, until Blue Peter came calling. As mentioned before, this was her definitive television highlight and gave the programme something it never had before or since, in terms of actually looking forward to watching it.

Getting to meet the woman herself was definitely a big deal and the overall highlight of my first visit to TVC back in 1994.

As for Robbie Vincent, next Sunday he's taking a break and standing in for him will be the one and only Peter Young which should be a more than adequate replacement.

I'll carry on having a read and giving my take on the book so in this case you really don't have to read it.
