Further Online Rummaging

I've spent tonight Youtubing once again, starting off with another vintage episode of Blockbusters from 1983.

The highlight being a mulleted contestant who makes his way halfway through and is a Led Zeppelin fan. Although he's slow to pick up in the first round, he certainly has his fans judging by the cheers after each correct answer.

And you have to love his delivery and enthusiasm overall.

I then managed to find two extracts from the Broom Cupboard from 10 years later, the first one being a guest appearance from Geordie comedian
Mickey Hutton promoting the second series of Hangar 17 and I can remember thinking that winning a Hangar 17 jacket was the ultimate prize.

That's followed by a rather cheeky link into a trail for Wildlife on One proving that the occupants of the broom cupboard were never afraid to take the mickey out of their colleagues.

Also, look out for David Schneider in the preceding trailer.

It's also worth mentioning Mickey's attempt at breaking into an older market with the Channel 4 gameshow Think Tank which was broadcast alongside 15 to 1 during the Autumn of 1995.

Countdown's sister show was the even duller "Backdate" a historical based quiz presented by Valerie Singleton.

Bearing in mind that these were just before the days when Countdown started running consistently as opposed to seperate series.

I believe that Mickey's gone back to his stand up roots nowadays.

The second one from a month later features Noel Edmonds instead of Andi where he gets a ribbing from Edd about the prank played on the previous week's show where he ended up having to sing "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" before being pelted with bouquets by Gotcha victims.

I can remember the stunt perfectly as every week Noel would attempt to sing at the end of the show only to be interrupted by the doorbell.

However for that week, an on screen caption appeared for the viewers at home saying "Noel is expecting the doorbell to ring. It isn't going to ring!".

Noel then got agitated and proceeded to stop singing convinced that something was wrong and was then handed a cue card saying
"We're staying on air until you've sung the whole song!"
resulted in cheers from the audience and laughter from me watching at home.

It also meant I got to stay up a bit longer than normal.

Noel however ended up in the Broom Cupboard again a month later, to explain to viewers after an unscheduled appearance of "Noel's Christmas Presents",
that they were unable to bring the House Party due to a bomb scare.

This was followed by a hastily scheduled showing of the Tom and Jerry cartoon "The Zoot Cat".

It remember it well when it happened, but I wasn't disappointed, as the following week was the final show where Eddie Large got his Gotcha and Robert Kilroy Silk got gunged.

That and the surprise appearance of Chris Evans on NTV made brought a superb finish to one Noel's strongest series.

Most of the above will probably end up in a revised version of my Saturday Night tangent that I posted a few weeks ago as I had a look at it and there are quite a lot of spelling mistakes.

That's mainly because my web browser doesn't have a spell checker but I'll sort that out as soon as I've finished this post.

There's also quite a lot of things I didn't write about which will probably end up as what you could call my first "book" (if you can call it that) which I plan to call "The Telly Tangents" which I'll start writing as soon as the dissertation's finished.

It will basically adapt extensive past posts on this blog about my favourite areas of television and will really be excuse just to give my thoughts on the shows and background on their success or less so in some cases.

It may be good to start sending it around to a few friends online who are heavilly into television as with all due respect, I doubt they would have visited this site unless I've prompted them.

It's just something for me to do really and will be the ideal way of spending my last few months here at University.

Good Night.
