Geordie Japery

Happy S.A.D. - Singles Awareness Day as radio consultant/legend Paul Chantler puts it.

Jonathan Ross was on good form last night although it can be a bit awkward with that ridiculous tight leash over language as such as some of the guests are unsure over how rude they can be on television.

That's rude as in naughty jokes not aggressive behaviour, but I'm sure you knew that anyway.

The guest I was looking forward to the most was Michael McIntyre who's now reached a point that even the bare presence of him is guaranteed to get a laugh. They're showing his episode of Apollo again on BBC 1 tonight which I didn't tape first time round, although BBC Three are also showing his appearance from the 2007 series where Jo Brand was the compere.

I also enjoyed Morrissey's performance towards the end which did include "This Charming Man" which I was singing to as you'd expect and even joining in on the screams just before the line "a jumped-up pantry boy".

Once again it's another Saturday spent in the library until 3pm when PY is on Jazz FM with what may be a Valentine's themed soul show.

After that it's Fearne and Reggie's requests on Radio 1 before possibly the highight of tonight, the 9th series of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

Say what you like about the Geordie duo but they are still two of my favourite people on television even if quite a lot of bits of the show get repetetive.

To be fair there's only so many times where they ask the contestant about to win the ads if they can remember where they all are before muddling them up.

Asides that it should be an enjoyable show with the new feature being "The Takeaway Prison" where a selection of C-Z listers try to escape from a fantasy prison including Rowland Rivron, Linda Barker, and Keith Harris and Orville.

The second to last one should definitely be locked up for life but we haven't really seen her on television for quite a while actually.

And no one can really see that part of the show as a promotion.

They're also bringing back "Ant Vs Dec: The Teams" where the only one I know who may be taking part is Atomic Kitten gob Liz McLarnon. But regardless of the nonentities, it should be good fun overall.

The only bad thing about the show is that the guest announcer this week is Paris Hilton, a woman who's ITV2 series has become guilty pleasure viewing but for me is barely worth getting the Freeview box out for.

I wish Charlie Brooker was still on TV so he could give her a right ribbing.

Back to Ant & Dec and whilst it's a popular series, there are still people on discussion boards who I get irritated with for saying that SNT is a rip off of Noel's House Party.

That's like saying Incognito are ripping off Earth Wind And Fire, as what they're actually doing is taking parts that made them brilliant and giving there own affectionate take on them as well as coming up with their own ideas.

And both bring things to a new generation of people although their proteges are still going pretty strong themselves.

That should be a Valentine's day well spent.
